Dr Andrew Cheng (OMS Surgeon)

Dr Andrew Cheng is a fully qualified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He obtained his dental and medical degrees from the University of Adelaide and has obtained extensive experience in oral surgery, oral pathology and dental implant surgery.

  • In 2010, he completed a clinical fellowship in the Ninth people’s hospital where he gained experience in complex orthognathic surgery, computer assisted maxillofacial surgery, endoscopic technique in temporomandibular joint and salivary gland pathology, navigational cranial-maxillofacial surgery, facial trauma, Head and Neck oncology and micro- reconstructive surgery. He has worked with and learned from leading surgeons in Oral and Maxillofacial and Plastic Reconstructive Surgery around the world.
  • Dr Cheng completed the comprehensive Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training program from the Royal college of Dental Surgeons in 2014. During his training, he has worked in the United Kingdom, Taiwan, Shanghai, and Wuhan.
  • He is currently a visiting Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Royal Adelaide Hospital where he is part of the head and neck Oncology Group in managing oral cancer. He is actively involved in the post graduate and undergraduate training of surgical trainees, medical and dental students.
  • Dr Cheng Chaired the ANZOMS (Australia and New Zealand Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons) from 2016 – 2023. He is part of the Medical Advisory Committee at Ashford Hospital and previously held this position at Tennyson Day Hospital.
  • Dr Cheng is the Director of Oral Maxillofacial training in SA and TAS and is a senior lecturer at the University of Adelaide. He regularly goes on overseas volunteer missions to help Cambodian orphans with their dental needs and Cambodian patients with complex Oral and Maxillofacial surgical problems. Dr Sanjaya Gamage (OMS Surgeon)

Dr Gamage is a dual qualified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, having completed his accredited OMS training through the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in 2024. Prior to his OMS training, Dr Gamage completed his dental and medical qualifications through the University of Adelaide and has experience working in the respective fields in both Australia and New Zealand.

During his OMS training, he had the opportunity to work in both Adelaide and Hobart, where he gained a range of clinical and operative skills in all aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. His particular interests in OMS include surgical extraction of impacted wisdom teeth, implantology and pre-prosthetic surgery, corrective jaw (orthognathic) surgery including that for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), management of facial trauma, management of TMJ disorders as well as resective and local reconstructive surgery for head and neck cancer.

Dr Gamage prides himself in ensuring his patients feel “at ease” in the clinical setting and has a calm and gentle approach to his consultations and treatments. He aims for a collaborative, patient-centered and evidence-based process to achieve and maintain the highest standards of care for his patients.

Outside of the clinical setting, Dr Gamage enjoys spending time with his family, travelling (when able to do so) as well as maintain an active role in mentoring and teaching medical and dental students/ graduates. He is passionate about the advocacy his specialty within the wider medical and dental community and hence maintains a position in voluntarily lecturing final year medical students in the scope of OMS during their ‘Transition to Internship Program’. He is also actively engaged in the ‘OMS Fellowship National Teaching Program’ for accredited OMS trainees throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Dr Brenton Hearn (OMS Surgeon)

Dr Hearn has been practicing dentistry since 1976 and has been a qualified oral surgeon since 1996. He has trained in the United Kingdom and at the University of London. Followed by training at the University of Adelaide in both Dentistry, Medicine and Oral and Maxillofacial surgery.

He has had advanced training in Implantology and also specialises in Dentoalveolar, Wisdom teeth and Oral medicine/pathology.
Dr Hearn is dedicated to looking after his patients and making a positive difference to the quality of their lives.

Dr Holloway qualified as a dentist at University of Leeds School of Dentistry in 1998. From the very start he had a passion for dentistry. He worked at the prestigious Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Trust U.K. developing his skills in dental surgery and implants. Later training extensively in multiple implant systems and advanced techniques before moving to Australia with his family.

For over 20 years Dr Holloway has helped patients requiring complex surgical extractions, wisdom teeth extractions and dental implants.

Dr Holloway and his family moved to Adelaide in 2018 to take up a position at the Adelaide Dental Hospital (ADH) and Royal Adelaide Hospital as a dentist in the Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Unit.

Currently Dr Holloway shares his time between the ADH and Advanced OMFS rooms.
He is passionate about the experience and care all his patients receive, ensuring everyone is welcomed and as comfortable as possible throughout their time with us. He loves his job, working with patients requiring dental extractions and implants. Dr Holloway enjoys giving back to the profession by upskilling qualified dentists both in the community and at the Adelaide Dental Hospital and teaching a new generation of dental students.

Dr Holloway volunteers his time and expertise at the Common Ground Outreach program, offering dental care to people without homes or unable to access any health service.

A/Prof Yakin is an Oral Pathologist, dentist, educator, and researcher with specialist qualifications from the University of Sheffield in England and the University of Otago in New Zealand. He is currently an Associate Professor of Oral Pathology at the Adelaide Dental School with extensive experience in diagnostic oral histopathology, interests in cancer tumour environment and biomarkers, clinical oral and maxillofacial pathology. He is also involved in dental education at the Dental School.

He is a Member of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists, the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, and the Australian Dental Assocation.

A/Prof Yakin has achieved a raft of Awards for his research on biomarkers in odontogenic pathology since 2013 in the US and New Zealand and has been the recipient of numerous grants in Australia. He was the previous Chair of the School of Dentistry & Health Sciences Research Development Committee at Charles Sturt University. Most recently, A/Prof was elected a Fellow of Pierre Fauchard Academy in recognition of his leadership and contributions to the profession.

Emeritus Prof Alastair Goss (OMS Surgeon)

Emeritus Professor Goss is a fully qualified Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon who joined Advanced Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the beginning of 2023. Prior to that he conducted his own specialist practice on North Terrace. His particular interests and skill set is in temporomandibular disorders, orofacial pain management, nerve injuries, orofacial pathology & the resolution of complex problems. He has retired from performing major surgery.

Professor Goss’ primary career over the last half century has been as a distinguished Academic. He has taught most South Australian dentists so your dentist knows him! He still teaches surgery, medicine, pathology and pain online. Prof Goss is an active researcher of intractable problems with some 300 peer reviewed papers and books. He is on several Editorial & Reviewing Boards nationally and internationally and currently is Editor of the Australasian Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

Concurrent with his Academic responsibilities he was also Director of the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Unit at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Besides his clinical consultant duties, he was also a Consultant to the Chronic Pain Unit, the Head & Neck Cancer Clinic and the Adelaide Children’s Hospital. He is currently an Emeritus Consultant Surgeon at the RAH

Professor Goss has held numerous executive positions with several national and international organisations for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry. Currently he is the Temporomandibular Joint Replacement Advisor to the National Orthopaedic Joint Replacement Registry. He is also Honorary Research Advisor to the National Dental Implant Registry. Professor Goss also provides independent advice on Medico Legal matters on referral by lawyers at E Reports, Pirie Street, Adelaide.

Dr Emilija Jensen (Paediatric Dentist)

Emilija is a specialist paediatric dentist, graduating both dentistry and specialist degrees from the University of Adelaide. She provides a range of surgical procedures including frenectomies, removal of extra teeth, teeth which are impacted or procedures required for orthodontics.

Emilija has a special dedication to helping patients who experience anxiety about surgical procedures. Her warm and empathetic approach, combined with the use of various forms of anaesthesia, including local anaesthesia, nitrous oxide, IV sedation, and general anaesthesia, ensures that every patient feels comfortable and at ease during their dental treatment.

Currently, Emilija shares her time between Advanced OMFS rooms and as a consultant paediatric dentist at the Women's and Children's Hospital. She is actively engaged in research and education, currently pursuing a Ph.D. and supervising Honours and Masters students and tutoring dental students at the University of Adelaide.
