Surgeon or Surgical Dentist’s Fees

 

Consultation Fees

The fee associated with your consultation with is the specialist surgeon or surgical dentist are payable on the day in full and able to be submitted electronically via Medicare or your Private Health Fund (depending on the surgical dentists or Doctor’s specialty) with the rebate returned to your nominated bank account.

 

Surgery

All fees for procedures will be explained in detail by the staff at the time of consultation. You will be provided with an estimate of the likely costs of any in-hospital procedures.

You should discuss these costs with the specialist surgeon or surgical dentist before you agree to the procedure. 

After seeing the specialist surgeon or surgical dentist, please contact your health fund if you’re unsure what you are covered for.

You will need to know the item number corresponding to your proposed procedure(s) provided by the specialist surgeon or surgical dentist.

Here are some questions to ask when you contact your health insurance provider

  • Have I served all current waiting periods?
  • Are all my premium payments up to date?
  • Does my policy have any restrictions, limitations or minimum benefits that may apply?
  • Do I have an excess or any co-payments associated with my policy?

 

ADVANCED ORAL & MAXILLOFACIAL DAY SURGERY FEES

Advanced Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (AOMS) is an Accredited day surgical facility, for all procedures performed under Local Anaesthetic or IV Sedation you will be ‘Admitted’ as a hospital patient at our Angas Street Day Surgery.

AOMS will run an eligibility check with your health fund prior to your surgery for the hospital and theatre fees. It is your responsibility to understand the type and level of cover you have and to contact your health fund to ensure that you are covered for the booked procedure. If there are any gaps, co-payments, out-of-pocket expensesᶧ or agreed excesses* we will contact you to advise you of the outstanding amount and this will need to be paid on the day of your procedure.

An out-of-pocket cost is the difference between the amount a doctor or hospital charges for a medical service or procedure and what Medicare and any private health insurer will pay. Out of pocket costs are also called gap or patient payments. *This payment is what you have agreed with your health fund

Hospital charges for private patients

Hospital charges you might have to pay as a private patient include:

  • accommodation
  • operating theatre fees
  • prostheses costs, for example dental implants and guides
  • medicines and dressings

If you have private hospital insurance the amount your insurer will pay for these depends on:

  • your policy
  • whether your insurer has an agreement with the hospital

Some policies pay only the Government mandated minimum amount for hospital charges for all or some types of treatment. This could mean you pay higher out of pocket costs.

The out-of-pocket cost to attend a hospital can vary widely based on several factors, including your insurance coverage, the type of medical and dental services you receive, and the specific terms of your insurance plan.

AOMS does not have any agreements with private health insurance companies. Therefore, you may have additional out-of-pocket expenses above that of any agreed excess with your health insurer for which you will be responsible.

Whilst your health insurer will continue to pay some benefits for your admission to AOMS, the benefit may not cover the full cost of your admission.

Even after you meet your deductible excess, you may still be responsible for additional out-of-pocket expenses.

AOMS will provide you with an estimate of fees outlining any out-of-pocket expenses you need to pay before admission.

 

ANAESTHETIST & PATHOLOGY COSTS

In addition to the fees outlined above, please be aware that if you require surgery, the Anaesthetist and Pathologist will send their accounts for their services separately and directly to you. Advanced Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery does not handle these accounts and you will need to pay them directly.

NO HEALTH FUND COVER?

If you don’t have private health insurance, we’ll provide a written quote of all hospital costs. You’ll need to pay all fees on admission.
